Class Information

All Breeds and Sizes of Dogs Welcomed

We provide the general public with education and training for all kinds of dogs. We instruct people with dogs of all breeds, mixes, sizes, ages, and abilities, to train their dogs to be good companions.

Obedience training is education for you – we teach you to teach your dog. Plan to spend some time every day working with your dog to get the full benefit of the class.

Who Teaches Classes?

GKCDTC is made up of club members who donate their time and expertise. All instructors have trained, shown, and titled their own dog(s) to the equivalent or higher level of the class they are teaching. Our volunteer instructors follow carefully designed lesson plans.

Enrollment

  • You must register online using DogBizPro prior to the start of class in order to attend. We cannot accept walk-in registrations.
  • Payment must be made at the time of registration. If payment is not completed, we can not hold your spot in the class. If you are having trouble with the registration and payment process, please contact enrollment@gkcdtc.org.
  • Classes will appear on the homepage and class calendar once they are open for general enrollment. Classes close 1-3 days prior to the first day of class.
  • Class size is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • A waitlist will be kept for the current session only and will be used if someone needs to cancel their class before the session begins.

Policies

  • Full refunds will be processed provided the request is made at least one full week before classes begin. View Refund Policy »
  • Dogs with aggressive behavior problems will not be allowed in the training building. View Aggressive Dog Policy »
  • Vaccinations: To ensure the health and safety of our students and our dogs, GKCDTC requires that your dog be vaccinated against rabies and parvo.
  • Bitches in season are not permitted in the training building. If your bitch comes into heat, please leave her home and plan to attend class without her. You will be surprised at how much you can learn.
  • Young trainers must be at least 12 years old to enroll in a class, must be capable of controlling the dog and must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Family members are welcome to attend; children must be supervised.
  • If inclement weather occurs, contact your class instructor directly. The general rule is that if Raytown Schools are closed because of the weather, GKCDTC classes will be closed. However, individual instructors may or may not decide to cancel classes.
  • Makeups: If GKCDTC needs to reschedule a class due to an instructor absence or weather, a makeup will be held. However, we do not offer makeup classes for students who miss an individual class.

Additional Information

Before you arrive – Parking, crates and potty area

Parking

Classes are held at the GKCDTC Training Building, 9911 E 63 St, Raytown MO.

Parking is limited. When the parking on the side and behind the building are full, reference our parking map (pdf) for additional spaces.

Sanitation

Do not feed your dog before coming to class. Please exercise your dog at home or in the appropriate areas before entering the building. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dog – both inside and outside the building.

Acceptable “potty areas” are:

  • The small park on the corner, east of the building
  • The grassy area at the end of the alley to the south
  • Field on the north side of the UMB parking lot. Not on the front lawn of UMB

Do not let your dog relieve itself on the walls, the yellow bollard (vertical post) or the doors of the training building and neighboring building.

If your pet potties along the parking lot and/or alley, make sure you pick up there as well. That area belongs to private businesses and apartments. We want to be good neighbors!

Crating

A limited number of community crates are available upstairs. Please use them with care!

Students enrolled in scent work must bring a crate to each class for their dog. Foldable crates may be stored downstairs in the designated racks.
